Text from the novel ‘Woman in Berlin’, female author anonymous
The novel from which this text is taken, accounts for the closing days of WWII in Berlin, and the experiences of a woman trying to survive the relentless bombardments of Allied bombs, the approaching Russian army from east of the city, and starvation. The author insisted on remaining anonymous through to her death.
The painting aims to give resonance to the idea that, small, hostile incidents can lead to massively destructive, aggressive, and harmful outcomes far bigger than anyone could imagine.
