Dies Irae, Dies Illa in Latin
Dies Irae, Dies Illa
Acrylic on wood panels
h24x w60 inches
2014
$1000

This painting interprets the key text from the second part of the Requiem Mass for the Dead. Translated the Latin text reads: ‘Day of wrath, day that shall dissolve the world into embers’.

The aim was to suggest that some words – Irae and Illa – are passing left to right, to their moment of judgment through the large letters of ‘DIES’. Some repetitions of the words ‘Irae’ and ‘Illa’ survive judgment; others do not.
