The text for this long but narrow painting is from the Bible, and combines the quote in Hebrew with certain overlapping words in Arabic (an English translation is included in the top left and right corners of the inscription), and reads: ‘How are the mighty fallen in the midst of battle and the weapons of war destroyed’.

The aim of this word was to use such an ancient text in a modern context, suggesting through auxiliary imagery the idea of destruction and war. In the forefront of my thinking were the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
