Fragments of a German quotation by prisoner Hans Weinsheimer

Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial (the prison for former East German Communist Ministry of State Security – the Stasi), where thousands of political and dissident prisoners were imprisoned, and interrogated by East German State Security, between 1951-1990.

A recent visit to this eerie facility inspired this selected series of collages. Similar to Cologne’s former Gestapo headquarters, corridors and tiny cells were endless, as was the sense of psychological torture.

The aim of this series of collages was to convey a sense of disorientation and isolation, whilst incorporating fragments of a scribbled text.
