These landscapes incorporate elements from two Polish sites associated with the Holocaust: Auschwitz concentration camp, and a memorial to a deportation centre
in the centre of Krakow. The bleakness and eeriness at these sites, particularly on a winter’s day, is extremely evocative. The aim of these paintings is to capture the bleakness of these environments, adding a reference to the empty chairs (the site-specific monument in Krakow), symbolizing the deported occupants to extermination camps, in WWII.
