This commissioned painting, at the request of the client, interpreted a key phrase from a poem by Elizabeth Bishop: ‘Close as two pages in a book that read each other in the dark’. The aim was to use the quotation in a non-linear fashion, emphasizing the
‘close . . . in the dark’, since this had particular significance to the recipients of this work, to whom this was to be a gift for their upcoming wedding.
